Intertek is the trusted provider of quality and safety services for many of the world’s leading brands and companies, with more than 30,000 employees working in over 100 countries.
With changing and challenging market conditions Intertek set out to transform how the business was perceived: a shift away from simple inspection and certification services, to being seen as a valued partner that helps brands build competitive advantage. blue goose were asked to help put the organisation’s transformation into employees hands and turn ambition into action.
Deconstructing and distilling
We started by deconstructing and simplifying what was a complex strategy into an accessible structure and format appropriate for the all levels across a global workforce. We helped identify key themes and elements of the strategy relevant for employees, distilling them into an abbreviated version, written in simple, clear language.
Our simple and accessible conceptual framework – ‘iDRIVE’ – was based on the distilled strategic elements of Dialogue, Relationships, Insight, Value and Ease and ‘de-mystified’ the strategy, making it relevant and ‘do-able’ by every employee.
Prioritising the audience
Finally, we worked with the client to identify how to put iDRIVE into action across the World. Our engagement strategy focused on the two employee groups who would play a major role in communicating the strategy, getting teams to take action, and making the changes stick: Local Leaders and Managers.
To help them make this happen we developed and wrote two iDRIVE toolkits, one supporting leaders to write a localised version of the strategy for their country and business line, and another for Managers to help them engage and enable their teams in the local strategy, and plan actions based on it.
The results of the initiative were impressive, contributing to Intertek being chosen from among leading FTSE 100 businesses Capita, Experian, Legal and General and Sainsbury's, to win 'The Coutts FTSE 100 Business of the Year' title. Intertek was described by judges as having "exceptional leadership, customer focus, staff engagement and innovation."
